A post that was anti-NSFW in nature is currently NSFW-ing everyone that navigates to the Oppo-Main-Page.

I dont really agree with anything this post and its comments stand for (to each their own). But think it's hilarious it is now blatantly showing off tightly clothed fake boobs to everyone.

I agree with you. Though we're all entitled to our opinions, I personally think modeling is a form of female empowerment. To assume that auto manufacturers and magazines deceive these women into working for them is ignorant. I sincerely believe these women are 'booth professionals' and 'public relation specialists.' Both the 'model' and employer accurately understand the market and its audience. The gentleman wearing the lewd tank top is a prime example of the market. If there was a man wearing a t-shirt and shorts handing out flyers, not a single potential customer would be interested in the product. I group these women in the same category as well-to-do Cosplayers that are paid to work conventions.

Are they beautiful? Yes, of course. Are they intelligent? Definitely.

Why? Because sex sells? No, well maybe in part, but not entirely. The reason we see these women as attractive is the belief that they have some interest in cars.

Well technically the pic was spot on in what you were trying to say. If anything, people clicked on it thinking "boobs" then were given an article that might make them think. If anything, its a accidental bait-and-switch.

Exactly and the women that work at car shows are never explicit int he mmannerism or state of (un)dress. Sure, they show off their form and the can be scantily clad, but in my experience it has never been taken to a level of vulgarity. And the places where this does are occur are more adult-focused anyway, it's not somewhere you'd take your family.

"To assume that auto manufacturers and magazines deceive these women into working for them is ignorant."

I never implied this. My issue was with the effect on car culture, not the relationship between the model and employer.

Demographics, demographics, demographics. You wouldn't take your 7 year old to a Hot Import Nights (I hope).

In defense of the article, this advertising is not for everyone and I understand that. But to the vendor, they do what works. If you don't like it, the blame should be placed on the men this marketing works on, not the act itself.

Thanks for replying to my post, I was gonna be upset if someone didn't want to discuss this with me, haha.

You drew a parallel between the casting couch and car modeling. I know I shouldn't assume what you meant, but the pornography industry is littered with producers who take that poor girl who will follow their directions and inadvertently take advantage of them.

Moreover, you used the words 'a symbol of some animalistic sexual fantasy' to describe the models and 'reluctant' in regard to their job performance under the implication that they are ashamed of themselves.

Current car culture is what should sicken you about this topic, not the result of these women being used as marketing. If 'enthusiasts' stop objectifying women like cars, maybe car culture wouldn't be perceived as so disgusting and vendors will stop scantily dressing their representatives.

Regardless, an interesting topic that got all of us talking. Nice piece, I mean it. Obviously your work resounds some here on Oppo and I respect that, if my opinion in any way upsets you, please, let me know, and I'll refrain from using strong/accusatory language.

"You drew a parallel between the casting couch and car modeling."

It was a bit of hyperbole, but the general meaning behind it is that a woman who is willing to let men ogle her for being nearly naked likely doesn't need a huge push in going the full banana. She's still in control of her actions, but it's the employers who ultimately pay her to show as much or as little of her body as they need.

"Moreover, you used the words 'a symbol of some animalistic sexual fantasy' to describe the models and 'reluctant' in regard to their job performance under the implication that they are ashamed of themselves."

They are sex symbols and nothing more within this context. I never implied that they were ashamed of anything, simply that giving the sleazy guys that want to rub up against you hugs would wear down even the bubbliest of women.

We live in a society in which we prefer cars to be presented to us by women, I think even women would prefer it not to be Chippendale dancers.

Do not 'slut shame' these women, even those in the porn industry.

You can't assume that every adult actress voluntarily makes porn, that's the point I was trying to make in the previous post.

I won't get into the details of sex symbolism, it's obvious we differ on that topic quite a bit.

I agree that these women, like any human being would be worn down from their obligation to interact with less than savory individuals, but they can't show it, it's their job. Does it suck? I guess it depends on the woman and the event, but these ladies understand what they do, some take great pride in it, and I can respect that. Do things need to change? You betcha.

"Do not 'slut shame' these women, even those in the porn industry."

And who's doing that?

"but these ladies understand what they do, some take great pride in it, and I can respect that."

That was never the issue, nor did I make models out to be victims or criminals. They're simply cogs in a machine that's run off a cliff and lots its purpose.

Bit strong wording there, sorry. Couldn't find a better term. I was referring to:

"a woman who is willing to let men ogle her for being nearly naked likely doesn't need a huge push in going the full banana"

I'm arguing the "machine" you refer to has not lost its purpose, only been developed to reach new consumers.

I for one would think it hilarious if say Ford showed up to the car show with an army of Chippendales.
